One hundred and twenty Armed Forces personnel will deploy to NHS hospitals in Greater Manchester as part of efforts to combat the coronavirus.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) says they will help with tasks such as welfare checks, patient check-in and keeping stock at the right levels.

It comes as the MOD said 224 servicemen and women are helping trusts across the NHS Midlands area.

Armed Forces personnel supporting the COVID-19 effort in parts of Scotland have been thanked for their help as they stepped down from the role earlier this week.

The servicemen and women have worked alongside NHS staff to deliver vaccinations in communities across the country.

With large numbers of people taking up the vaccine, the support from the military has been vital – in Ayrshire and Arran service personnel helped the local NHS trust process more people through vaccination centres.
