Navy Searching For Sea Mines In The Mediterranean

A Royal Navy vessel has been leading a NATO multinational exercise in the region.

The Royal Navy has been playing its part in keeping a constant vigil against threats to NATO in the Mediterranean.

HMS Enterprise has been leading Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 2 (SNMCMG2).

The mission has been operating since 1999.

The ships are tasked with deterring the threat of sea mines in the southern seas that are protected by NATO.

Royal Navy Sub-Lieutenant Nick Lockyer, serves aboard HMS Enterprise, and has been on watch duty. He says it can be disorientating but he cannot let that affect the running of the ship.

"As an Officer of the Watch your main role is bridge watch keeping. During that time you're responsible for navigation and safety of the ship."

In March, HMS Enterprise and the other ships in SNMCMG2 took part Exercise Ariadne 18, a counter-mine exercise hosted by Greece.
