Johnny Mercer praises the Invictus Games as a festival of recovery

Johnny Mercer has praised the Invictus Games and labelled it a "festival of recovery". 

The Minister for Veterans' Affairs has been in Dusseldorf watching Team UK compete. 

"I don't think you can really appreciate the atmosphere until you come here".

The games, which is celebrating its 6th event, has seen more than 500 former and serving personnel from around the world take part this year. 

Speaking of the games' importance, the Veterans Minister applauded the way it has helped those who are "vulnerable" and "have found life difficult, particularly after serving".

"The transformation stories I've seen, I don't think I have seen anything else quite like it."

The Minister paid tribute to Prince Harry and said he had joined him in the stands to watch some of the action. 

"You can see the lives he has changed, literally right there in front of you".

The games conclude tonight, with the next tournament being held in Canada in 2025.
