The Army has stopped live firing on Salisbury Plain until further notice due to an ongoing fire on the area.
The blaze is contained in the firing range itself, meaning local authorities are unable to tackle it.
However, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed that if the fire spreads outside of that area then the Fire and Rescue Service will be called in to assist.
A MoD spokesperson said:
"We have reviewed the risks of continuing live firing on Salisbury Plain training area and have made the decision to cease artillery live firing until further notice.
"We will continue to monitor the situation and share updates."
Public Health England has advised residents to stay indoors and keep their doors and windows closed.
