The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has announced that Falmouth will be the host of next year's Armed Forces Day national event.

The announcement was made on Saturday as Scarborough hosted a spectacular occasion that saw hundreds of military personnel marching through the town's streets.

Falmouth will be the 15th location in the UK to host Armed Forces Day, with early plans already including military parades, flag raisings, and flypasts.

The MOD said that Falmouth is "an enduring supporter of the Armed Forces and will welcome military personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force to its streets, joined by thousands of well-wishers".

Councillor Louis Gardner, Cornwall Council's Armed Forces member champion and chair of the Armed Forces Covenant Partnership Board, said it was a "great privilege" the county had been named host for next year's event.

He added: "We have a deep affiliation with the Armed Forces and a strong historical link.

"Falmouth is the perfect destination to showcase the outstanding work of the Armed Forces past and present and pay tribute to serving troops, veterans, cadets, and service families.

"Serving personnel and veterans of our Armed Forces community will be assured of a very warm welcome and an event that thanks them for their commitment to keeping our country safe."
