Defence Secretary Speaks Out On Afghanistan 'Falsehoods' And 'Bullying'

Ben Wallace Defence Secretary

The Defence Secretary says Ministry of Defence staff have been subjected to "bullying, falsehoods and threatening behaviour" amid the current evacuation mission ongoing in Afghanistan.

UK personnel are playing a key role in the country, as part of Operation Pitting.

Ben Wallace, in a series of tweets, said: "No-one, at any stage, has blocked a flight. This is a total myth and is being peddled around as if that is why the pet evacuation hasn't taken place," seemingly in reference to Royal Marines veteran Pen Farthing and his animal charity Nowzad's wish to leave Afghanistan.

"I never said I would not facilitate," the Defence Secretary continued.

"I said no-one would get to queue jump.

"The issue, as those desperate people waiting outside the gates know too well, has always been getting processed through the entrances.

"It can take over 24hrs. There is no point turning up with a plane until the passengers/pets are airside.

"There has been no "u turn'". You can’t unblock something that was never blocked."
