COVID: Dozens of military teams deployed as part of booster programme

Forty-two military planning teams are being deployed across England as the coronavirus booster programme is widened out.

From today, every adult over the age of 18 who has received a second COVID vaccine dose at least three months ago will be eligible for the booster.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed the role of the Armed Forces in a video statement on Sunday, saying: "We will also assist this emergency operation by deploying 42 military planning teams across every region, standing up additional vaccine sites and mobile units, extending opening hours so clinics are open seven days a week, with more appointments early in the morning, in the evening, and at weekends, and training thousands more volunteer vaccinators."

The announcement follows hundreds of UK personnel being tasked with assisting in the booster rollout in November.
