A commanding officer in the British Army deployed to Mali has used social media to document himself tracking down the daughter of a "proud mom" on Twitter.

Lieutenant Colonel Will Meddings is Commander of the MINUSMA Long Range Recce Group and 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.

He took to Twitter to respond in detail to one "#ProudMom" who had shared one of his update posts on his unit in Mali, featuring her daughter.

In a tweet, Rachael Hebbert said: "Still can't believe that our daughter is driving one of these (Jackal vehicle CO Will Meddings posted) through Mali in the British Army #ProudMom."

What happened next was a heartwarming interaction between the CO, Lt Col Meddings, and the mother.

The commanding officer spotted the tweet and saw her interaction and decided to give her an update on why she is "quite right" to be proud of her daughter.

Lt Col Meddings and his soldiers are deployed to Mali as part of the UN peacekeeping mission, MINUSMA (Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali).

The 18,000-strong peacekeeping mission was established in 2013.
