Lights Out: Remembering the First World War

A nation-wide campaign to remember the outbreak of the First World War will see locations across the U.K.

A nation-wide campaign to remember the outbreak of the First World War will see locations across the U.K. switch off their lights at 10pm on August 4th.

The idea is based on a speech given by the Foreign Secretary at the time Sir Edward Grey. On the eve of the war he said: 

"The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime."
