This year's national Armed Forces Day event in Scarborough has been cancelled due to coronavirus outbreak in the UK.
The town was due to host the national event celebrations on 27 June.
Organisers have said that the extra pressure the pandemic has put on emergency and public services means that the planning and staging of such a significant events is simply not possible.
Councillor Tony Randerson, who is one of the lead planners for the day said: "While I am sure you will be as disappointed as we are, you will understand the reason why this decision has been taken and for the need for the services to be focusing their attentions on the current exceptional issues facing the country.
"We’d like to thank everyone who has been involved in working towards the event so far and ask for patience while we work with the Ministry of Defence to consider future options.
"In the meantime, I wish you all well over this difficult period."
The official Armed Forces Day website has suggested ways the public can still show support for the Armed Forces from home.
They are encouraging people to take pictures of themselves saluting and to post them to their Facebook and Twitter pages using the hashtag #SaluteOurArmedForces.
They are also asking people to send messages or call members of the military, they know personally, and thank them for keeping the UK safe.
