King Charles

In pictures: Gun salutes across the country mark King's birthday

Gun salutes were fired across the capital in honour of King Charles' 74th birthday.

To mark the occasion, the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired 41 volleys from midday at London's Green Park – which was followed by the Band of the Scots Guards playing 'Happy Birthday' in the park.

This was the first formal birthday salute for His Majesty since he became King.

The South Railway Jetty at HMNB Portsmouth, as well as Edinburgh and Stirling castles, also marked King Charles' birthday with a 21-gun salute.
