King Charles

Behind the scenes with the Godfather of the sword

On 6 May, at the Coronation of King Charles III, the first King's Sword to come out of Crown Sword's workshop will be carried by the Navy's State Ceremonial Warrant Officer.

Malcolm Orderver, known to many in the industry as the 'Godfather of the Sword', journeyed from London to the small workshop in Norfolk, where the sword was made, to test it.

We accompanied the Godfather to the workshop for a behind-the-scenes look at how a 14-week process has produced the first sword bearing the King's cipher.
