Royal Navy divers carry out controlled explosion of WW2 bomb off coast of Guernsey

Royal Navy divers have conducted a controlled explosion of a Second World War bomb off the north coast of Guernsey.
Guernsey Police said what was thought to be "an airdropped weapon" from WW2 was detonated at 10:15 BST on Thursday.

The blast of the controlled detonation was strong enough to be recorded by British Geological Survey's seismic instruments (seismometers) in the UK and instruments in France, and was akin to a magnitude 2.7 earthquake, about 6km (four miles) north of St Peter Port.
The event was later removed from the British Geological Survey's website after the seismic recording was linked to the blast as the event was not an earthquake.
