How real is Top Gun? Active US fighter pilot breaks down movie

Top Gun: Maverick is the latest blockbuster to capture the imagination of the Armed Forces community, featuring real cockpit footage in daring scenes of speed, manoeuvres and combat.

A love letter to aviation, the Tom Cruise installment got military and non-military viewers asking just how realistic the film is, and what it must really be like to hit the dizzy heights of a US fighter pilot in modern aircraft systems.

Forces News' Tom Sables managed to track down a member of the US Air Force's 480th Fighter Squadron, from 52nd Fighter Wing in Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, to get some answers.
