The Ferocious Fighter Who Fought Off The Taliban With His Kukri

He was shot, stunned by a grenade, and ambushed by two Taliban attackers.

Despite all this L/Cpl Tuljung Gurung, armed then with nothing but his Kukri in the close confines of his guard tower, successfully fought off two Taliban insurgents almost twice his size.

"When I saw them I thought, I don’t want to die, I want to live. If I am alive I can save my colleagues. I have to do something. So, like a madman, I did everything."

Nearing the end of his duty at four in the morning, L/Cpl Tuljung was ambushed by two Taliban insurgents.

In spite of overwhelming odds against him, L/Cpl Tuljung Gurung overcame his attackers, preventing them from accessing the patrol base and leaving them limping off with grievous wounds sustained courtesy of his kukri.
