Military personnel have joined the Royal Family for a carol service at Westminster Abbey.

Airing on Christmas Eve, the Armed Forces personnel were among more than 1,800 people at the televised service.

As well as those in attendance, photographs of some of the service personnel deployed overseas away from their families this Christmas were used to decorate a Christmas tree in Westminster Abbey.

Watch: Chief of Defence Staff thanks military personnel for their "incredibly important and special" service in Christmas message.

The service was attended by a host of members of the Royal Family including the King and Queen Consort, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, the Countess of Wessex, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and Zara and Mike Tindall.

During the service, images of the late Queen through the ages appeared on a grand piano during an instrumental version of In The Bleak Midwinter.

The service took place on 15 December, just hours after the final part of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's controversial documentary dropped on Netflix.
