When Russia invaded Ukraine, many believed it would probably be over in days.

Six months on, experts are asking – how and when will it end?

The BFBS Sitrep podcast gets the assessments of experienced military minds, the Armed Forces Minister, and our own Professor Michael Clarke.

Professor Clarke warned this is an "on/off war".

He said the current fighting is the "second war" and that it could come to an end or reach a ceasefire in between 12-18 months before another war begins again.

He told the podcast: "This is a generational struggle, and this is a completely different security environment for Europe for the rest of the most of this century.

"The situation is quite dynamic, even though there's not a lot of movement on the ground and both sides have got something slightly different to play for.

"The Ukrainians want to score something quickly, the Russians realise now this will be a long struggle and are thinking now in the longer term."

Watch: Russian military has 'failed spectacularly'.
