Warships and navies of 13 NATO nations have taken part in Exercise Brilliant Mariner, an opportunity for the Alliance to enhance maritime collaboration.
This year's edition took place in Toulon, southern France, and involved 3,500 service members, as well as 27 warships, one submarine and several amphibious assets.
The exercise was also a chance for the French Rapid Response Force to prepare to take command of NATO Response Force (NRF)'s maritime component in January 2018.
Other countries involved were Canada, Denmark, Greece, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom
The Royal Marines Boarding Team were also present, and they took the opportunity to practise their abseiling skill, useful when there is no other safe way to disembark from a craft.
NATO Response Force (NRF) is a highly ready and technologically advanced force made up of land, air, maritime and Special Operations Forces components.
They can deploy quickly, wherever needed, to strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence posture and project stability beyond its borders.
