Reservists from 165 Port and Maritime Regiment went back to basics on exercise Lion Star 7 in Cyprus.
The reservists' (from the Royal Logistic Corps) core job is loading and unloading Royal Fleet Auxilary Ships.
First, though, they are soldiers and must keep their basic skills in order.
For two weeks the troops have been patrolling and identifying targets on the 'battlefield' in Cyprus.
As well as port operators the regiment also includes Seaman and Marine engineers to look after the army’s inshore vessels and its logistics landing ships.
The unit supports their regular counterparts in the RLC’s 17 Port and Maritime Regiment.
165 Port and Maritime were one of the first army reserve units to deploy during the Iraq war.
