The Countess of Wessex has been the guest of honour at a homecoming parade for 5 RIFLES.
5th Battalion has returned from a nine-month operational deployment to Estonia, where they’ve been supporting a major NATO mission in the Baltic states.
The mission is designed to deter Russian aggression and demonstrate military strength.
5 RIFLES is an infantry regiment well known for its courage; it boasts 117 Victoria Crosses and 21 Military Cross awards.
The regiment’s latest success is a 9-month deployment to Estonia, known as Op Cabrit.
There they worked alongside Estonian, French and Danish forces to Defend NATO’s eastern flank in Europe from Russian aggression.
5th Battalion The Rifles has been the lead battlegroup for the UK’s Enhanced Forward Presence this year.
That means that 800 troops, along with their Warrior armoured vehicles, have helped support our allies in the region on Operation Cabrit.
And now they've received Royal recognition for their work in a proud homecoming following a long deployment.
